We had a great time recycling

It’s surprising what you don’t have to throw away.

At Little Hearts we focus on educating our children in recycling activities and include them in everything we do around the preschool in terms of reusing resources, reducing waste and building eco-awareness.

For example, our children help with sorting our food waste and turning food waste into compost and we let them repurpose scrap paper and other materials for crafts.

We also get our children involved in labelling, decorating and setting up the recycling bins indoors and outdoors and explain the type of items that go into each bins and invite children to lead on the sorting.

We take our children on litter-picking adventures in the local community – which they love – and build nature awareness by exploring meadows, trees and parks on our outings. Through these activities we encourage children to develop an appreciation for Earth and a sense of responsibility for their own behaviour.

We also reach out to families to include the wider context of the children into building eco-awareness and let parents, carers and families help us set up awareness building activities.
